He Can, but Will He?
Key Passage: Matthew 8:1-4

Topic: Jesus; Pain/Suffering; Faith/Trust

And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." (Matthew 8:2, ESV)

When it comes to the power of Jesus, there's nothing He can't do. If that thought no longer excites you, it's time for a new look at what it means. Basically, everything around us comes through Jesus.

In Colossians it says, "For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him" (Colossians 1:16, ESV).

Jesus has the ability to create, heal or change any situation He desires.

When the leper came to Jesus, twisted and deformed from his debilitating disease, he asked carefully, with great thought and faith. He didn't say, "Hey, Jesus, I'm sick. Can you heal me already?" Or, "I'm not sure you really can heal this leprosy."

This man realized Jesus was capable of making his illness disappear but at the same time, he knew there might be reasons it wouldn't happen. How brave to trust the Lord fully in such a desperate circumstance.

So the question should never be, "Can Jesus do it?" but rather "Will Jesus do it?" Learning to accept the loving, purposeful ways of Jesus brings you a step closer to having peace in the middle of painful or confusing times.

Remember Jesus is always working and ready to answer when you ask.
