Am I living out my faith?

In his song "Live out Loud," Steven Curtis Chapman says that not sharing what Christ has done for us is about as crazy as winning a million dollars and not telling anyone or not spending it. One part of the song says, "If we really have been given the gift of life that will never end, And if we have been filled with living hope, we're gonna overflow and if God's love is burning in our hearts, we're gonna glow. There's just no way to keep it in." If you truly understand the gift that God has given you, there's no way you can keep it to yourself.

So, do you live out your faith or do you just go to church on Sundays and never share or show your faith the rest of the week? Some Christians are really good at talking the talk, but not walking the walk. They have a lot of biblical knowledge, can recite verses and even debate theology, but they aren't living out their faith day to day.

The idea of living out your faith comes from James 1. "But don't just listen to God's Word. You must do what it says. Otherwise you are only fooling yourselves" (James 1:22, NLT). It's not good enough to just read the Bible or go to church on Sunday; we must put our faith into action.

For instance, the Bible says to love your neighbor, but how often do you stop and show people that love by helping them?

Luke 10:30-37 is a good example of someone not living out their faith. A man was robbed and left for dead beside the road. A priest came by, saw him and did nothing. Now wouldn't you think that a spiritual leader would be the first to show love? He preaches love and mercy to his congregation, yet when it came down to it he wasn't even doing what he told others to do.

Start living out your faith today. Share Christ with others, help those in need, and love people!
